The best thing you can do to bring a sense of hope to your life is to discover a sense of purpose. But how can you know your real purpose? Maybe you have searched for that for thirty or forty years and have never found the answer.

I cannot answer that question exactly for you because it is ultimately up to you. What I do know is that whatever your rescission in life, you will be of great service to humanity. I believe that every person has a great internal desire to find a harmonious way of living on the planet and to contribute something of value to the world. In Korean we call this the Hong-ik ideal, which refers to the desire to be beneficial, not just to yourself but to all of humanity.

This sort of mind-set can be a great source of continual hope in your life. People who have a clear sense of purpose are never hopeless because they always know they can make a difference, even if just one step at a time.

There is a natural progression to life that unfortunately many of us have stepped away from. It is like many of us are caterpillars who have decided not to become butterflies. Or maybe we have just forgotten that we are able to become butterflies.

As I see it, the human life span has three phases. First we have a growth phase that usually is experienced during childhood, adolescence, and our early twenties. Of course we continue to grow throughout our lives, but this is a particularly intense period of investigation and experimentation during which we try to pet to know ourselves and the world.

In our late twenties and thirties, we move into what I call the “success phase,” during which we try to create something tangible with our lives in the physical world, perhaps through career or the development of our finances.

While this may seem regrettable, it is also fortunate on many levels. Differentiation separates, but it also provides the chance tor reunification. Separation gives us a chance to truly value the experience of oneness, in much the same way that both light and shadow are needed to create the perception of form. If we had simply kept our oneness from the beginning of time, there would have been no chance to choose oneness through our own tree will, which is the choice we have to make now.

Experiencing Oneness

The question then is how to return to this place of oneness. I believe that it is through quieting the mind and the experience of energy that we can return.

Brain Wave Vibration can open the door to this possibility because it offers a way to stop the thinking mind, even if only for a few minutes. When you practice well, you will feel a disintegration of the surface of your body. Of course, it is not a literal disintegration your skin and the rest of your body will remain intact. What you will realize, however, is that you do not end there, that your being goes far beyond the confines of your body. You will experience that directly, not just as an intellectual concept.

Also, as I worked with various students, I could sec that changing the mind was very important for improving the overall state of health. Yoga and other forms of exercise could produce good results, but the effects were always temporary if more fundamental changes did not take place in the mind and, more specifically, in the brain. Thus, I developed the Brain Education System Training method, which brings various mind-body training methods together in one cohesive form (see page 202). Brain Wave Vibration training, like all other forms of Brain Education, focuses on the brain because this organ determines so much about the quality of our lives. It is meant to help you create greater health, happiness, and peace—the three basic elements necessary for the creation of a successful human life— through the proper management of your brain.

Brain Wave Vibration training is one of the simplest forms of Brain Education, and also one of the most effective. It focuses on the most basic part of the brain, the brain stem, because this is also the part that governs bodily function and orchestrates the stress response within your body. In its rhythmic movements, Brain Wave Vibration becomes somewhat like a meditation, as your thinking mind drifts away and your brain stem goes to work returning your body to a state of equilibrium. And best of all, it can be learned instantly and requires little instruction.

Your neocortex, which is the thinking part of your brain, is continually sending messages to your brain stem that keep you in a fight-or-flight state. For example, your thinking mind may continually generate messages like “You are not keeping up with the competition” or “You are not being a responsible parent.” Hearing the alarm generated by your brain, your sympathetic nervous system puts your body into the tight-or-flight state, which increases your heart rate, brings tension to your muscles, and generates a host of other bodily effects.

The parasympathetic nervous system is also there, waiting to return the body to the rest-and-digest state, but if you cannot learn to quiet the messages of alarm from the neocortex, you will be left in an almost constant state of stress. Eventually, the stress response creates great wear and tear on the body, and many stress-related problems come about precisely because the brain stem is never given the chance to create balance in the body.

So how do you get around this vicious cycle? Just let the brain stem do its work. If your neocortex is constantly creating negative messages about your life and the world in general, your brain stem will continue to generate a negative response for your body.

Brain Wave Vibration training is about freedom— freeing your body and brain to work as they were always meant to work. Life is supposed to be free and organic, but we often suppress our brain’s natural abilities through the stress and emotions we habitually feel. Every living creature possesses a natural healing ability. Which is essentially the ability to bring one’s body back into equilibrium? Increasingly, your brain will be able to find creative, workable solutions to the basic problems of life. After you have learned to empty yourself of emotional baggage, you will be ready to expand your awareness and transcend the boundaries of the ego, feeling the oneness of all things. You will be ready to ask yourself fundamental questions about life with complete honesty and sincerity. You will then accept new, positive information into the brain.

Because identity is the core information affecting your life, it is of primary concern, and you can create a new identity based on your newly discovered life purpose. Once you are fully integrated with this new identity, creative potential becomes practically unlimited.

This stage is called Brain Integrating because all lavers of the brain are working together and the brain stem is now activated. Also, the left and right hemispheres of the brain begin to communicate better, and disparate parts of the brain start to work together in full cooperation. Through this deep exploration, you can discover the part of you that is truly meant to be in charge of your brain.

Let the entire body rides the rhythm.

Once your body is fully relaxed and your mind has quieted, YOU can begin to follow the natural rhythm. Focus intently on your physical sensations. Allow the vibration to spread out to all parts of your body. As the body starts riding the rhythm, it becomes completely relaxed, and the skin starts vibrating. The breathing becomes natural, and all the motions follow their own rhythm. At this time you will begin to make spontaneous movement with your body. This is the process of the body healing itself. Small, subtle vibrations become bigger as they start getting more deeply into the rhythm.

Follow the flow of energy.

Once the vibration becomes natural and familiar, vou will become increasingly aware of the movement of energy within your body. Allow yourself to follow that flow. Just like hitting the accelerator in order to speed up 3 vehicle, this increased energy will speed up and strengthen the waves of the vibration in your mind.

THE PROCESS OF BRAIN WAVE VIBRATION

DRAIN WAVE VIBRATION is so SIMPLE there is no need to analyze the method too closely. However, for the sake of understanding, you should be aware that there are three distinct phases of the training. In actual practice, these steps should happen automatically without any clear distinction between each phase. It may take a few repetitions, a proper environment, and some extra time to fully experience all phases.

Deliberately make vibrations in your body

When you begin, you will make the vibrations consciously. You may do so by following the beat of a song, or you may just follow a rhythm that seems appropriate to you. At this stage you should focus on relaxing the body as you move to the rhythm. Try to quiet the thinking mind bv focusing only on the beat and the movement of your body. Avoid self-conscious concern about how you look to others; just focus on oversell. To begin, gently shake the head left and right. As the neck starts feeling relaxed, shake the shoulders up and down. Let the sensation spread through your body as you shake your entire body while lightly bouncing up and down. As you shake, imagine that you are shaking off all your complicated thoughts and emotions. Try to release all tension from the bodv through your exhalation.
