Meditation techniques for children help young people build their minds
Many adults only think about the mental development of their children in terms of what can be learned at school. They believe that the most important education involves addition and subtraction, nouns and verbs. However, this attitude may discount an important area of learning.
Author and philosopher Ilchi Lee recommends meditation techniques for children to help enable young people to get a different perspective on life. This may be particularly important in today's achievement-driven society, in which young people are pushed to learn more and more and to be accountable for this knowledge through testing. This all starts at a very young age.
Allowing young people to spend time on mind-expanding activities that do not involve direct learning may be one of the best ways to help them create their own motivational stories for kids.
Experts say that children need unstructured time to explore their own thoughts and feelings. This is generally not possible in a school setting, which is why it is so important for parents to facilitate this. “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” is an inspirational story about honesty
Directed by Frank Capra and starring Jimmy Stewart, "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" is perhaps one of the most inspirational stories about honesty to ever grace the silver screen.
The film was released in 1939, but is still relevant today in many ways. The story centers around Jefferson Smith (Stewart), who is picked by the governor of an unnamed state to replace a Senator in the U.S. Congress. Smith is the leader of the local Boy Scouts and is about as clean-cut as they come: completely honest, but also completely naive to the inner workings of Washington.
The governor essentially uses Smith's image to please the people, but also preys on his good nature to manipulate him. Once he arrives in Washington, Smith is taken under the wing of Senator Joseph Paine (Claude Rains), who is corrupt, unbeknownst to Smith.
After attempting to pass a bill that would create a camp for Boy Scouts across the country, Smith gets caught up in one of Paine's political schemes. Through lies and deceit, Paine and his political cronies turn the public against Smith, forcing him to question his faith in the entire political system.
Frank Capra's films are often dismissed as being wholesome and corny. However, this movie is a great example of Capra's darker side. Smith is dragged through a mud and seems to be one of the few good people in the entire film. While his honesty eventually wins the day, it's not without exposing the numerous flaws of the system. In fact, while the film is ultimately pro-American, Capra was mercilessly attacked by polticians and Senators who felt that the film was anti-American and even Communist.
Today, however, viewers will likely find this to be an inspirational story, as it portrays the good that one man can do, if he remains honest.
